2024 NEWSLETTER – BOROUGH OF CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS

Rate Increases
Due to increases in yearly operational costs for the water plant and sewer plant, rates will be increased starting with the January 1, 2024 billing.

  • Borough water customers: Currently the base rate (first 1,000 gallons of usage) is $13.00, that will increase to $14.00. The rate for each additional 1,000 gallons of usage will increase from $6.00 per thousand to $7.00 per thousand.
  • Borough and Township sewer customers rates will increase by $1.00 per thousand gallons of usage. Currently the rate is $22.00 per thousand, that will increase to $23.00 per thousand.
  • Borough customers will no longer receive a 2% discount on water and garbage billings starting with the January 1, 2024 billing.
  • Borough residents garbage rate for 2024 will remain at $39.50 per month. Monday will remain the collection day. Residents are asked to put their garbage out to the curb no sooner than 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening for Monday morning pick up. For the following holidays pick up will be on Tuesday instead of Monday: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day.
  • Borough residents can choose to add curb side recycling at a cost of $5.00 per month. Tri County Industries will provide, at no cost, a 96-gallon wheeled tote for the recyclables. You must contact the Borough Office to add the recycling option, the contractor will not pick up your recyclables if you are not signed up for the service. Attached is a list of items to recycle and the pickup schedule. Recycling pick up dates are circled on the schedule for 2024.
  • Tri County Industries offers a senior citizens rate for garbage collection, which is limited to 25 homes on this program. The resident must be at least 65 years old and lives alone. The cost would be $10.00 per month and the resident would need to purchase stickers that would be placed on their garbage bags. The stickers would cost $6.00 each and would come in a package of 5. This program would benefit anyone who might only put out a bag of garbage a couple of times a month. If you would qualify for this program, please contact the Borough Office to sign up and purchase stickers.

Disposal of Unwanted/Unused Prescription Medications

The Borough has a Med Return Collection Unit located at the Police Department at 161 Carringer St. or the Cambridge Springs Pharmacy at 227 S. Main St.

Items that are accepted: prescriptions, prescription patches, prescription ointments, over the counter medications, vitamins, samples and medications for pets.
Items that are not accepted: thermometers, needles, ointments, aerosol cans, inhalers, hydrogen peroxide and medications from clinics. Items can be dropped off during normal business hours.

Burning in the Borough

Under the Borough Ordinances, fires of wood or charcoal are permitted for outdoor cookouts or recreational purposes, with adult supervision. Residents may use a grill, fire ring, outdoor fire pit, fireplace, or chi men ea, no greater than four (4) feet in diameter. No burning of garbage, trash, brush etc. All fires must be extinguished at the conclusion of the event.

Collection of tree limbs, brush & leaves

Borough residents can put tree limbs and brush to the curb for collection on Tuesday. If the amount of tree limbs or brush exceeds the capacity of a pickup truck, the Borough will provide a dump truck for you to load. The dump truck would be made available Mon – Fri between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. In the spring leaves can be put in bags and placed at the curb for pick up by the Borough. In the fall the Borough uses the street sweeper to collect leaves. Please rake the leaves to the curb in the fall.

The Borough web site, cambridgespringsborough.com includes a “payments” tab. If you have a water/sewer/garbage bill with the Borough you can view your account balance and pay online using a debit/credit card. The credit card companies charge a fee for each payment. Also, customers have the option to receive the monthly bills by email. To sign up for this, please contact the Borough Office.
